Learning to fly, Together

Who We Are

Each year, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) holds a student RC aircraft contest called Design-Build-Fly (DBF)

We are CU Boulder's DBF team.

What We Do

We design an RC aircraft from scratch to best accomplish the missions that AIAA outlines in the rules.

The team then attends and competes in the competition during April in Wichita or Tuscon.

We accomplish this by splitting the work up into multiple subteams. Read about these below!

Aerodynamics

Performs CFDs, selects airfoils, works on sizing, stability and control

Structures

Designs all the structural components of the plane to ensure structural stability through all missions.

Propulsion

Responsible for simulating and designing propulsion system from batteries to engines to propellers.

Business

Handles club social presence, marketing and outreach

Systems

Works with all other subteams to ensure that everyone is on the same page.

Avionics

Designs the controls system, wiring, PCB design, and transmitting/receiving signals.
